For many with diabetes, technology provides essential tools to help them manage the disease. Technology generally falls into one of three areas: taking insulin; managing and monitoring diabetes through technology such as ketone monitors and carb counting apps; or checking blood sugar.

Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) are one of the most recent advancements in monitoring and managing blood sugar. These small devices are worn on the skin to measure glucose levels continuously, without the need for finger pricks.

CGMs can be connected to an app, reporting real-time data that helps the user know when their glucose is high or low while also providing insight into trends. Additionally, it is possible to set the CGM to alarm at low and high blood sugar levels, which can further help manage the condition.
